The Mexican veteran was clearly outboxed by Bivol, proving the cliché that a bigger good fighter usually overcomes a smaller good opponent.
Tim Cheatham, Dave Moretti, and Steve Weisfeld, all three judges, gave Bivol identical scores of 115-113.
According to Compubox, Bivol, a 5-1 underdog, has fired 710 blows to Canelo’s 495. Bivol landed 152 of them against Canelo’s 84. Bivol landed 106 power blows to Canelo’s 74, however Canelo connected with 43 more body shots than Bivol (15).
Bivol, 31, is undefeated with a 20-0 record and 11 victories inside the ring.
